The NUB-Request: Innovation Payments

Remuneration of Innovation in the German DRG System

NUB-ToolWhen the German Ministry of Health introduced the DRG system, it also recognized the need for including the issue of remunerating innovation. An expert panel, including Dr. Wilke (who was a board member between 2002 and 2004), developed the NUB request, which is described by and governed through the hospital financing law (§6 Par. 2 of KHEntG). It defines the payment for innovations before they are incorporated in the regular German DRG system.
